THE SENATE:
The Senate is the upper house of the French Parliament.
He holds the legislative power in conjunction with the National Assembly. He is the representative of local authorities.
He sits on the Luxembourg Palace and has 343 senators (from 348 to 2011). Senators are elected for six years by indirect universal suffrage 150 000 electoral votes.
Since 1 October 2008, the French Senate President Gerard Larcher is (UMP senator Yvelines).
President of the Senate is the second character of the French state. Indeed, the 1958 Constitution entrusts to the President of the Senate is responsible for ensuring the Acting President of the Republic where the Constitutional Council would have found a temporary vacancy or permanent: death, illness, resignation, or other cases.
