Between the 20s and early 70s, this trade was a hardware store. It was held by Eugene LIARD then Leon BARD during the 20s, Charles Geoffroy and his wife Yvette LECARELLI during the 30s, Mr. BRETON in the 50's, Mr. MERESSE in the 60s and finally Mr. LaForme.

So Eugene LIARD which has expanded its trade No. 47 Market Square between 1912 and 1917 by acquiring the No. 45 which was held by the saddler (*) Victor LEGENDRE. It transferred its stock in trade at No. 35 Market Square, now occupied by MILLYMENTHE.

At No. 47 LIARD Eugene and his wife Mathilde Dages successor to Emile Felix and his wife THALBOT Eugenie between Farnsworth 1891 and 1896 hardware and iron merchants. Between 1861 and 1876 are the merchants in irons Jean Baptiste Denis and his wife Elvira BRAUDIN who held the trade. They succeeded Jules-Louis Braille and his wife Therese Bertheau. From 1836 to 1846 it was the merchants of irons Herbelot Louis and Françoise LEROY who exercised at this location.

At No. 45 the harness - Saddle (*) Victor and his wife Marie LEGENDRE BARDILLON successor to Paul and his wife Bertha MONTIGNY GADET circa 1901. Paul had MONTIGNY APRIS the trade with his father Thomas MONTIGNY and succeeded him in 1891. Thomas and his wife Lucile MONTIGNY PREVOST moved to this address between 1861 and 1866. Previously their Saddle saddlery was at No. 53 Market Square. From my research before 1866, this spot was occupied by either the neighbor's No. 47 The Merchant of irons, or by the tailpiece John Abraham SAVE with his wife Anne-Marie and their son Etienne Havard who are at réfenrencés No. 43 between 1846 and 1861 before moving to the No. 33 of the marketplace.

(*) Bourrelier : Whoever manufactures harnesses (especially for complex harness draft animals, a main parts: the padded collar) with the raw material, leather, cow beef, the canvas embourrure of horsehair, wire "waxed" but also of wood and metal parts.

The trade of harness is very old. It would have appeared in France in the fourth century. In 1268, the articles of the corporation say they are "makers of necklaces and carapaces horse saddle and harness any other way." From 1400, each apprentice may become a master after completing his masterpiece, in this case a full body harness. Later, the corporation split into harness (in the countryside) and saddle (more urban).

With the advent of machinery, horses have disappeared from our countryside, and with them, the saddler died. Today, the job remains only for riding horses.

Tools-tools: layout tools (scissors) cutting (several feet or knives for cutting leather strips of constant width, punches, sweeping cars for chamfering angles of leather) of drilling (awls, pliers cutters, sewing machine very specific); clamp (large wooden clip to secure the piece of leather working, pliers to pull the leather), various tools (formoirs - wooden accessories to smooth seams, pass string, ...)
